I have ten years of teaching experience, six of which have been in international schools in Spain and Thailand. I began my career working in an inner-city school in the UK and have worked in a variety of Primary and Secondary schools, taking on roles both in the classroom and coaching sports. In 2016 I moved to Spain where I was a class teacher in KS1 for two years before becom­ing a PE specialist. In 2019 I joined Rugby School Thailand as the Pre-Prep PE Lead and coached several football teams across the school. After two years in Thailand I returned to Spain,teaching Primary PE in Seville before moving to Harrow Shanghai.

I was able to demonstrate my creativity and differentiation and was invited to speak at Suzhou’s 2019 G10 Education Summit delivering a seminar on the importance of child focused learning. My students understand what they will learn each day and how it will impact their life. Beyond the classroom, it has been a privilege to experience the culture of Shanghai; travel around different Chinese provinces and meet incredible people. I am delighted to join Harrow, an institution of education which nurtures a holistic teaching environment.

During my 8 years in International Education, working with students from China attending High School in Canberra, I obtained a Bachelor of Education. I spent 4 years as a Chinese Teacher setting up a new language program at Canberra Grammar School. During this time, I led 3 study tours to China for teachers and students, visiting important cultural and historical sites as well as spending time in schools. After taking time to travel around Australia with my family, I returned to my hometown of the Blue Mountains. There I spent the first two years teaching high school students a variety of subjects, with a particular focus on supporting students with English as an Additional Language. Passionate about Inclusion and educational equity for all students, I have been working for four years as a teacher of Students with Special Education Needs (SEN), taking on the role of Second in Charge SEN in 2023 and Head Teacher (relieving) SEN for a period in 2024.

My role also involved teaching the full suite of Cambridge English Lan­guage courses, IGCSE English as a Second Language and IELTS. Away from the classroom I have over ten years of experience in boarding both in the UK and overseas. Supporting the pastoral needs of students has always been an important and significant part of my teaching career. I am familiar with Harrow and its academic standards as I have previously worked at Harrow International School Hong Kong. Prior to joining Harrow Shanghai, I worked as an EAL teacher and Housemistress in Chengdu.

I took two years out of teaching to work for an Arts Council England funded company to bring arts projects to areas of artistic deprivation. Kate McNeil

Teaching Experience:

Through my 14 years of teaching experience, I have taught from KS1 to KS4 as both a class teacher and a mathematics specialist. I am passionate about teaching and learning in mathematics, focusing on developing the key skills of reason­ing, problem solving and investigation that support students in becoming confi­dent and competent learners across the curriculum. I began my teaching career in Bristol, England in an outstanding primary school before working overseas in Malaysia, Jordan and China. I have once again been drawn back to China, after previously teaching in top schools in both Beijing and Shanghai. Living and working in China has given me valuable cultural experiences and stunning travel opportunities. I feel very proud to become a member of the teaching team at Harrow Shanghai.

After studying Mathematics and Physics at university I was accepted into the Royal Military Academy of Sandhurst to become an Officer in the British Army. I served as a Technical Engineering Officer for 6 years (in addition to my normal responsibilities, I specialised in teaching Maths and critical thinking). Before joining Harrow Shanghai, I was a Teacher of Science at a school just outside of the city of Leeds. I am excited to have the opportunity to share my passion for learning and the scientific way of thinking with the students at Harrow Shanghai.

I also did some part time teaching in Jiaotong University, helping with their A Levels courses and also teaching statistics to undergrads. Last year I took a short break from Shanghai and was teaching Cambridge Lower Secondary, IGCSE and the IB Diploma Program in St Peter’s school which is just south of Lisbon Portugal.

My latest role was as the Director of Social Sciences, overseeing departments that managed subjects like Humanities, Business, Economics and Psychology. Before this I had the chance to create and lead Real-World Studies at the middle school level. Additionally, I took on the responsibility for Environ­mental and Sustainability initiatives across the entire school, stressing the impor­tance of sustainability. My impact extended beyond a single school, as I led a cluster of schools in the Middle East, sharing knowledge and fostering a commit­ment to sustainability.

I have been working and studying in the educational field for over 8 years. I used to study in the UK. After I got my postgraduate degree, I worked in a top international secondary school in England in the past years. As a full time Mandarin teacher and a form 2 tutor. I was responsible for teaching Year 7 to Year 13 Mandarin lessons, holding Chinese language club activities, and organising Chinese cultural events. I am glad all my students got excellent performance in IGCSE, GCSE, A LEVEL and IBDP, HSK exams, and eventually entered to their dream university. Besides, I was also responsible for taking care of pupils’ learning needs including academic expectations, mental health, and any special educational needs. In addition, I also worked in London during holiday, helped a great number of students to improve language skills. I love teaching, and enjoy sharing my time with students. I create engaging Chinese lessons for the children and lay a solid foundation for their Chinese skills in Pre-Prep. Seeing the children enjoy my Chinese classes is the greatest reward for me.
